See Paris 1900 - The City of Lights
Stunning footage of Paris filmed more than 110 years ago has been painstakingly colourised for a celebratory documentary of the era of the “Belle Epoque”.
Director Hugues Nancy spent months restoring the colours in the different clips. Filmed between 1900 and 1914, some shots were captured more than 110 years ago.
The documentary, Paris 1900 - The City of Lights, was produced by CPB Films using archive footage from Gaumont Pathe Archives, Films Lumiere and Lobster.
The City of Lights played host to the Exposition Universelle in April 1900, which welcomed 51 million visitors - half of whom were foreign. At this time Paris was known for both its art and fashion, as well as the latest technical and scientific inventions.
This fascinating archive material has been restored and fully colourised, so this film presents the viewer with a glimpse of Paris as it was in days gone by.
