NFB Archives is proud to be a part of Michelle Latimer’s new documentary, Inconvenient Indian. Premiering at Toronto International Film Festival this month, the film is an adaptation of Thomas King’s acclaimed book of the same title.
Featuring Kent Monkman, A Tribe Called Red, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril and more, the film depicts "a young generation trying to shed the shame" and reclaim its identity. Inconvenient Indian is a prime example of how archives can be used by Indigenous creators to turn hurtful stereotypes on their heads and re-tell history from their own perspectives.
