A woman performer fell to the ground from a car while performing the well of death stunt at a local fair in Gondal town of Gujarat on Tuesday.

As the horrified spectators watched she plunged 30 feet to the ground. Her colleagues on ground rushed to help the injured woman who was shaking uncontrollably from shock.

They moved her to a near-by hospital, where she is being treated for her injuries. Media reports said the stunt woman, who has not been named, escaped without major injury.

Organisers said she lost her balance and fell while leaning out of the car window to wave at the audience. They also dismissed rumours that the woman had died.

The district administration has taken note of the incident and sought a report on the safety measures taken by fair organisers while organising the popular but dangerous stunt show.

Maut Ka Kua or literally well of death draw huge crowds at fairs organised in small towns in parts of India. Performers, usually from desperately poor families, drive bikes and cars on vertical walls of a cylindrical chamber built with wood.

They perform life-threatening stunts and do not use any safety measures despite frequent accidents.

In July, a car lost speed and fell on a bike below it injuring the rider seriously in in Hajipur, Bihar.

In mid-May a stuntman died after crashing his bike into a car during a show in Koraput, Odisha

Despite such incidents Maut Ka Kua performances with little regulatory oversight.
