Case Study in Film Restoration
Many people will remember the classic 70's hit TV cop show, The Sweeney, (rhyming slang for Flying Squad of detectives) which featured hard-nut crime-busting team of Regan and Carter, played by John Thaw and Dennis Waterman. Who can forget the screaming theme music and their catchphrase of "Shut it"?

Unfortunately the original 16mm films have deteriorated. With a new feature film in the cinemas, starring Ray Winstone as Regan, it was time to get the television version "sorted".

The prints and negatives were in a bad way and the BBC's Studios and Post Productions (BBC S&PP) Digital Media Services team got the job of fixing them up. Fortunately they were able to source many of the original negatives which helped the restoration enormously. After painstaking work the Sweeney is now ready to collar a new generation of viewers in HD.
